5 things to Know Before Choosing a Residential HVAC Contractor?

2/4/2019

Do you need regular or emergency HVAC service? You don’t just want to go with the first “residential HVAC contractors near me” the search engine pulls up. You want the best HVAC contractors for the job—the ones who will show up at 3 am when the emergency strikes. Here’s what you need to know before you make the call to your local HVAC contractor.

What you should know before you click the link for that “residential HVAC contractor near me”:

1)  One contractor may not fit all tasks

There is more than one simple component of your HVAC system. As a result, you need to find the “residential HVAC contractors near me” who can actually complete all of the jobs necessary to keep your system happy and healthy. Check the contractor or company’s website to see what services they offer. You should see a variety, including things like filter replacement, preventative maintenance, air balancing, and more.

2)  Can they be there in a pinch?

While regular and preventative maintenance is important, the chances are that you aren’t typing “residential HVAC contractors near me” into the search engine at 3 am because you’ve just remembered that you forgot your semi-annual filter change. More likely, there’s a problem, and you need a contractor asap. Making sure the HVAC contractor is available 24/7 is important, and their website should state that they offer emergency services. You really don’t want to be stuck waiting for someone to get back to you during business hours if you are having serious problems.

3)  Convenience is key

One thing your designated “residential HVAC contractor near me” should not be is hard to get in touch with. Look for the contractors or companies that don’t make you waitlist your calls. Some even offer online scheduling so you can log your problem in detail and know that the information is getting relayed in full to the right person.

4)  Look for the right level of professionalism

When you follow the link for your “residential HVAC contractors near me,” you should end up at a professional looking web page, or you should be able to follow the phone listing to a professional sounding company that is responsive and knowledgeable about your HVAC system and your problem. Don’t stop there, however. Do some checking to make sure they have the right qualifications, including EPA certifications, NATE certifications, and the proper licensing as per the guidelines set by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations.

5)  Follow the positive reviews

You have to be a little skeptical of online reviews, but they are a good point of reference when you want to get an idea of how the company does on the job. Just type “residential HVAC contractors near me” into your search engine, and keep an eye out for customer ratings and reviews for each of the results you turn up. Again, be a little dubious of what you read, but if you see several reviews that boast the same experiences, or some reviews that mention happy outcomes to problems that are similar to yours, you might look at the right residential HVAC contractor for your service or installation.

I thought it was great how the article said that you should find contractors or companies that don't make you waitlist your calls. My brother works for a computer programming company that builds software for accounting firms, but the building that they work in has been having issues with its heating and air conditioning. It would be beneficial for them to find a company that is reputable and convenient to come and fix these issues for them.

Thanks for pointing out that we must check everything to ensure that they pass the qualifications to ensure that they are qualified such as their EPA, NATE, and other certifications and licenses. I will follow your advice now that we need their services to fix our cooling system. The reason is that our unit has been producing rumbling sounds which caused me to be sleep deprived for days now.

I thought you made a great point when you said that an HVAC contractor should not be hard to get in touch with. My father is renovating his house so that he can raise its value and sell it for a profit. His furnace has been broken for a few days so he may want to hire a contractor to go and repair it for him.

The air conditioning in my house keeps blowing warm air, and your article had great tips for choosing a contractor that could help fix this issue. I liked how you said to make sure the person I hire has the right qualifications, such as EPA and NATE certifications. Thanks; I'll keep this in mind when hiring the HVAC contractor best for my issue. -"logged in"

My favorite part of this article is when you say to look for an HVAC company that provides convenient service. I want to make sure I can count on them to answer my calls and address repairs or issues immediately as they arise. In order to have peace of mind on this, I will make sure the HVAC contractor I hire provides 24-hour service.
