WrightSoft makes Contractors Better

9/17/2020

Hey guys, hope you all are well and making it through summer. We recently purchased this software to try to expand our scope of work. It's a heat load software that helps size the tonnage of hvac equipment, and give us a clean picture for duct design and much more. We obviously love it! Let me show you some feature down below.

Manual J- This software allows the homeowner to see the material make up of their home and insures the hvac system is sized correctly.

Wright-Draw- this is a necessary upgrade in the software. It helps make the designing process less tedious...

Manual D- this is great for those big bids you throw out their when the big companies call. Show them you have a clean plan and that you have a team of geeks making sure the ductwork is built for perfect air pressure.

Take the training!- WrightSoft has online courses available for any and all the questions that I could come up with while using the software. Highly recommend Alex Meaney with Wrightsoft!

In conclusion, this is a great software. So easy an HVAC contractor can do it, well.. my wife is better at it than me, but I wrote the article lol.  Thank you WrightSoft and thank you all for reading!

Milwaukee Pack-Out; Game-changer

5/31/2020

Hello again, from the midst of Houston, Tx. corona virus 2020. I hope you all have been well. I write today in great pride with my Milwaukee Pack-out set up. I have had the system now for two months. I'm going to lay out the pros and cons in this review.

The pack out system is a great way to separate the different trades-parts into a same application box. For example, my PVC box has two compartments on either side of the middle area, it has three separate dividers. In one divider I have glue and primer etc. and I always know where the part is I'm looking for.

I also use one of my pack-out wheel-boxes to hold my vacuum tank and my vacuum tools. Its been great not having to lug around a vacuum pump!

If you're like me, you label every pack-out into the desired categories. This helps when communicating with your partner during Houston, Tx. HVAC Installations. It's a real pain when we can't find something and it's hot. Priority AC approved! Milwaukee Pac- Out; Game-changer.

11 most Common Air Conditioning Repairs

10/2/2019

Paying taxes, driving in traffic and A/C repair are all inevitabilities of life here in the city. Houston is an incredibly difficult climate to condition; due to high humidity. Essentially, we have heavier air than other parts of the United States. Refrigerant has a pressure-temperature correlation. Air-Conditioning, in this application, is the achievement of human-comfort. With these things in mind, let's dive into  the most common air-conditioning repairs.

  1. Dirty Filters - a dirty filter will drag air slower across your evaporator coil and will lower the DAS (discharge air temperature). Slower air pressure will lower refrigerant temperatures.
  2. Thermostat- mercury bulb thermostats must installed level and be secure on a load-bearing wall; digital thermostats can fail at anytime, but in our experience, they fail mostly in the side seasons. I don't like recommending digital thermostats programmed for a heating and cooling parameter; Instead, choose heat or cool.
  3. Refrigerant Leaks- These can occur at anytime and often present themselves prematurely due to improper start-up practices. Did you know that if an air conditioner is under-charged by twenty-five percent, it can result in 50% more energy consumption!
  4. Drain clogs- High-humidity means high moisture content in the air. Relative humidity in the air must be removed before the sensible temperature of your thermostat will lower. On a typical summer-day in Houston, a 5 ton air-conditioner can remove 25 gallons of water from the air. This cold water then is discharged into a 3/4 inch pvc drain-line. Sign up for ac maintenance to get your drains cleared on a consistent basis!
  5. Evaporator Coils- this part of the air-conditioner is what traps the water vapor in the air and condenses it. It's made of copper and aluminum. This part will eventually fail because of these two facts. To ensure it lasts longer, make sure your HVAC company is practicing proper vacuuming of the system before start-up and keep your AC at a consistent temperature to ensure unnecessary humidity removal (over-working the ac).
  6. Breakers or Fuses- I've seen dogs chew wires that pop fuses, squirrels and rats too! Power surges can trip breakers. A "on" breaker in your panel box should never be warm/hot, I have a great master electrician friend that can help!
  7. Capacitors- essentially, the battery for compressor, out-door fan motor and indoor blower motor. This is the part customers always think is the problem! Haha! I find it funny when I go to a service call and then the customer belittles my trade-knowledge by saying "it's probably the capacitater". A good technician will smile at you, and follow the sequence of operations to determine problem, every time.
  8. Compressor- the "heart' of the AC system, can fail from lack of refrigerant, being un-level, running with a bad capacitor, improper installation practices, dirty filters and restrictions of refrigerant flow to name a few. Very expensive! Get ac maintenance!
  9. Condenser Coils- this is what stores the heat energy that the evaporator coil removed from your home.  The condenser coil can fail from dog urine, weed eaters and degradation of metallic surfaces.
  10. Worn Contactor- the contactor is essentially a magnet that opens and closes. In maintaining the magnetic field a frequency is emitted; this frequency can attract ants and dirt-dobbers, which can prevent the contactor from closing. Mechanical failure can happen at anytime.
  11. Poor Breaker panel balancing-  If your main breaker panel for your home is not load balanced it can wear our mechanical parts faster and make you spend more money each month on electricity. Thor Electric is the company I refer to all my customers in Houston and surrounding areas.

HVAC contractor thoughts: Indoor air quality; iWave R

9/6/2019

Indoor air quality in Houston Texas has been on the decline due to new building construction, high volume traffic and coastal winds. Also, viruses and airborne illnesses travel back home and wait patiently to infiltrate your families immune system. Let's break down the need to-knows about the iWave R by Nu-Calgon.

Description of product
iWave-R treats the air in any brand of residential duct air conditioning systems up to 6 tons (2400 CFM) in size with no maintenance and no replacement parts. Designed for universal mounting, the iWave-R typically requires only 15 minutes to install inside or outside of duct, or to attach magnetically near the indoor fan in the air handler. Simply connect to power using its patent-pending voltage input capability. Install between air filter and cooling coil to treat the indoor coil; as an alternative, the iWave-R can be installed in the supply air. iWave-R always works at peak performance, producing over 160 million ions/cc, more than any other ionizer product on the market.

Personal Experience with Product
I was approached two years ago when the product was being develop. They asked if we could install it and give them a review. I've continued to sell the iWave in my business, and our customers love them! There's a video on YouTube that shows the iWave cleaning the cigarette smoke from a see-through container. Here's the link if you want to check it out...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlfimeZHtAQ
I've been an advocate for a competitor's product for a while. The only problem with the competitors product is that the bulb needs to be replaced every 2-3 years, and the bulb cost us around $150 at the time. Unlike UV indoor air quality solution, the iWave does not emit Ozone.
In Conclusion
The iWave R is my favorite indoor air quality solution on the market at this time. The iWave's, no-maintenance(self-cleaning), ease of installation and customer satisfaction gives me great confidence that this is the healthier home solution for you.

HVAC contractor thoughts: Trane XR16 variable system

9/4/2019

HVAC contractor thoughts: Trane XR16 variable system

Warning, this article will have a slight tilt, positioning Priority AC as a beneficiary of the excellent craftsmanship that is the XR16 2019 Trane’s residential variable speed HVAC solution for 2019.

“The XR16 home air conditioning system has a SEER rating of up to 17.00, making it an excellent choice for home comfort and for earning energy-efficiency tax credits” -Trane

This system has to be sold to a licensed HVAC contractor with a Trane account, which helps ensure quality of installation. Trane is very committed to being the highest quality manufacturer, hey Carl.

Fun Fact: Trane loves pushing the laws of physics with extreme component torture tests. “Snowball II (residential XR16)” has been in a constant state of overcharge since 2003, sort of like running a car 70 miles an hour around the clock to see how long it will last”. That source was from 2017, I wonder how snowball is doing?

Trane proudly flaunts their 71-74 overall sound power level [dB(A)]. I’ve had many customers mention that they “didn’t know an air-conditioner could be so quiet”. This is achieved with their compressor sound insulators and Integrated Fan System blade down design.

Expect to this air conditioning upgrade to lower your ac bill by half when compared to 8 SEER rating. “Like miles per gallon in a car, the higher the system SEER rating, the more comfort you will get from each energy dollar.”-Trane XR16 product brochure

Pro Tip: The majority of systems installed prior to 2006 are 10 SEER or lower. Potential energy savings may vary depending on your lifestyle, system settings, equipment maintenance, local climate, home construction and installation of HVAC system.

Registered limited warranty- If you register your new Trane product within 60 days of installation, the Base Limited Warranty is lengthened and becomes a Registered Limited Warranty at no additional cost. Registration can be completed by phone or online.
*Selling your house? Don’t forget to transfer your warranty. Either you or the new homeowner must notify Trane of the warranty transfer within 90 days of the home sale for the transfer to be effective. The warranty transfer will cost $99 if you transfer at time of home sale.
Picture
In conclusion, Trane’s XR16 equipment is an investment to be proud of. Combining the reliability, efficiency and part availability; Trane brought a great product to market. I hope this aids in your air-conditioning journey. If you found this article helpful, please like and share!

HVAC Contractors thoughts- Lennox 14ACX system

9/3/2019

My Thoughts on Lennox 14 SEER system

Being a HVAC contractor and having went to multiple Lennox lunch-and-learns, hopefully I can offer the perspective you need to make an educated buying decision. In this article we will explore inside-information on one of the top manufacturers’ HVAC system in the US. This information is a combination of facts and my experience.

Getting my start in the HVAC industry in 2013, I found myself with a company that primarily sold Lennox equipment. I went to a ton of great classes on Lennox Zoning solutions and got to know a few big names there, hey Ken!

Lennox 14 SEER equipment is the baseline SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) rating that can be sold here in the southern region of North America.

The simple communication methods of this machine means less expensive repairs if a component on the system should fail.

Lennox’s high efficiency outdoor coil- provides exceptional heat transfer and low air resistance for high efficiency operations.

“Leaking Lennox”; slang I heard used in my early years in the industry. They had a evaporator coil law suit in 2012. They did have problems with their evaporator coils leaking refrigerant, but they were quick to settle the mess; Lennox is offering a material warranty on certain evaporator coils (make sure your HVAC company checks warranty information for you).

Lennox includes a five year warranty on covered components including compressor. This product may be eligible for valuable ten year extended warranty coverage with customer product registration.

“The 14ACX has efficiency ratings of up to 16.00 SEER, giving you a comfortable home all summer long without worrying about the utility bills” Lennox https://www.lennox.com/products/heating-cooling/air-conditioners/14acx

Lennox 14acx compressors have been known to be on the noisy side, this is because the compressor only runs in one speed. “Outdoor unit is quite loud. We can hear it operating through the outside wall. When we walk outside by it, sounds like a propeller engine. Quite surprised by the high decibel of noise”-Ed Rosario

Another customer commented: “Nice unit, quiet and cools well. Seemed a fair value as well.”

In conclusion, Lennox 14acx systems are a good solution for the home owner who wants a new HVAC system without breaking the bank and with parts readily available when mechanical failure occurs. If you found this article helpful, please like and share!
